What are cookies?

In computer science, a cookie is defined by the HTTP transfer protocol as a small piece of data sent from a website and stored in a user’s web browser while the user is browsing that website.  Every time the user loads the website, the browser sends the cookie back to the same HTTP server subject to certain conditions. 

To put it more simply, a cookie is a small text file put on to your computer by the site to store information about you (for example, the display language, display of tools or not, your connection username and password for the site when you ask the programme to remember you, etc.).  

What are the different types of cookies?

Functional cookies:

These cookies allow the website to remember choices you may make when visiting it in order to save your having to repeat them during subsequent visits.

Tracking cookies:

These cookies allow us to collect data concerning your use of the website, including the content that you click on when browsing the website, in order to improve the performance and design of the site. These cookies may be supplied by our third party tracking tool supplier, but they are used only for purposes connected with our websites.

Target cookies:

These cookies remember information about your use of the website so that we can make information available to you about offers and specifically targeted information on our website.
